The Ultimate 2-Day Mysore to Coorg Itinerary (2026 Guide)

Often called the “Scotland of India,” Coorg (Kodagu) is a paradise of lush green hills, cascading waterfalls, and aromatic coffee plantations. Located just 118 km from Mysore, it’s the perfect destination for a quick weekend escape. The drive via NH 275 takes about 3 hours and is easily one of the most scenic routes in Karnataka.

If you are short on time but want to experience the best of the region, we have crafted the perfect 2-day Mysore to Coorg itinerary to help you make the most of your trip.

Day 1: Culture, Nature, and Stunning Sunsets

8:00 AM – Start Early from Mysore. Start your journey early to beat the traffic and enjoy the misty morning drive. Getting a direct cab right from your hotel or the railway station is the best way to save time.

10:00 AM – Namdroling Monastery (Golden Temple), Bylakuppe. Your first major stop before entering Madikeri should be the famous Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe. The Namdroling Monastery is home to stunning 40-foot-tall golden Buddha statues and beautiful Tibetan architecture. It’s a peaceful way to start your trip.

11:30 AM – Cauvery Nisargadhama Just a short drive from Bylakuppe is Nisargadhama, a beautiful island formed by the River Cauvery. Accessible via a hanging bridge, it features thick bamboo groves, teak trees, and a deer park. It’s a great spot for a quick nature walk.

1:30 PM – Lunch and Check-in at Madikeri Head to Madikeri, the main town of Coorg. Check into your hotel or homestay and enjoy some authentic Kodava cuisine for lunch—don’t miss the local Pandi Curry (pork curry) or Kadambuttu (rice balls) if you are a non-vegetarian, or try the traditional bamboo shoot curry for a vegetarian treat.

4:00 PM – Raja’s Seat for Sunset End your first day at Raja’s Seat, a beautiful garden with panoramic views of the western ghats. Historically, the kings of Coorg used to spend their evenings here. Find a good spot, relax, and watch the sun dip below the rolling green hills.

Day 2: Waterfalls, Viewpoints, and Coffee Estates

9:00 AM – Abbey Falls Start your second day with a visit to Abbey Falls, located just 8 km from Madikeri. A short, refreshing walk through coffee and spice plantations leads you to this spectacular waterfall cascading down the rocks. (Note: Bathing in the falls is not allowed, but the view from the hanging bridge is completely worth it.

11:30 AM – Mandalpatti Peak (Jeep Safari) For a dash of adventure, head toward Mandalpatti. The last stretch of the road is quite rugged, so you will need to hire a local 4×4 Jeep from the base. The bumpy ride is thrilling, and the 360-degree view of the mist-covered Pushpagiri forests from the top is simply breathtaking.

2:00 PM – Omkareshwara Temple After heading back to town for lunch, visit the Omkareshwara Temple. Built in 1820, this unique temple features a mix of Gothic and Islamic architecture, complete with a central dome and four minarets.

3:30 PM – Coffee Plantation Tour. You cannot leave Coorg without visiting a coffee estate. Stop by a local plantation to learn how coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted. Most tours end with a fresh, aromatic cup of local brew. Don’t forget to buy some coffee powder and local spices to take home!

5:00 PM – Journey Back to Mysore Begin your relaxing drive back down the ghats, reaching Mysore by 8:00 PM.

How to Travel: Make Your Trip Hassle-Free

While local buses are available, they follow strict schedules and don’t stop at tourist viewpoints along the way. Navigating the hilly terrain of Coorg also requires an experienced driver who understands the local routes.

For a comfortable, flexible, and safe journey, the best option is to book a private cab. You can explore at your own pace, stop for photos whenever you want, and leave your luggage safely in the car.
